Cairns is a popular tourist city in the north of the Australian state of Queensland. Its paradisiacal beaches with crystal-clear sea and its proximity to the Great Barrier Reef make it particularly inviting for swimming, snorkelling and diving.

The Australian city of Cairns in the north of the state of Queensland was once founded in the gold rush and is now one of Australia's most popular tourist destinations. Especially the youth and casual backpackers are attracted by the paradisiacal flair of the city of approx. 100,000 inhabitants.

To enhance this spectacular visit, selecting an appropriate accommodation is essential. There are numerous resorts that offer top-quality services. Find more information about these accommodations at Queensland Hotel Motel http://www.queenslandhotelmotel.com/en/theme/resorts-18/.

Many people put a stay in Cairns at the end of their Australian trip. This idyllic spot is the perfect place to end an eventful trip. In Cairns, everything is geared towards relaxation on the one hand and partying on the other.

Starting Point to the Great Barrier Reef

The spectacular Great Barrier Reef, one of our top 10 Australian attractions, is only an hour and a half away by speedboat. The two offshore islands of Green Island and Fitzroy Island are also excellent diving and snorkelling grounds. Rafting, deep-sea fishing or surfing is also possible almost everywhere here.

Stunning sandy beaches

Since Cairns has no city beaches, a 4,000-square-metre swimming lagoon fed by seawater was built on the waterfront. However, this "giant open-air pool" cannot hold a candle to the sandy beaches.

The "house beaches" Kewarra Beach and Trinity Beach about 10 kilometres north of the city limits leave nothing to be desired by bathing beauties and sun worshippers. Here, palm trees line kilometres of white sand where the gentle or stormy waves of the turquoise sea break - a sight straight out of the most beautiful photoshop-prettified travel catalogue.

The only problem here are the jellyfish. Especially between November and April, it can happen that beaches are closed because the transparent poisonous creatures are spreading near the shore. Unfortunately, you can't get into the water then - but the reefs and their marine inhabitants can be admired perfectly from above in bright sunlight.

Other highlights in Cairns

If you want to touch the animals around you, the Wildlife Dome is the place to be. Koalas, wombats and crocodiles are waiting to be petted by visitors. Those interested in plants and nature should definitely take a detour to Kuranda with the Kuranda Scenic Railway - an original railway from the 19th century that runs through the middle of the tropical rainforest.

History buffs are well catered for at the Cairns Museum, where you can learn about the fate of the Aborigines who once lived here and Cairns' past as an important transhipment point for gold and timber.

If you want to party the night away, Shields Street is the place to be in Cairns. This is where the hottest clubs, bars, cafés and restaurants line up.

At the Reef Casino, you can gamble away your remaining holiday money or win an advance on your next trip to Australia. During the day, you can spend your leftover dollars in the shops and boutiques of Abbot Street or the Lake Street Mall, or buy kitsch and art at the Night Market on the waterfront.

Tip: Cairns has a tropical climate, which means up to 35 degrees between November and March and monsoon-like rainfall. Less rain and less heat from June to September.
